Abstract
Osteopontin is a phosphorylated acidic glycoprotein that has been implicated in a number of physiological and pathological events, including it is required for efficient bone resorption. This cytokine mediates important cell matrix and cell-cell interaction. In vitro experiment, osteopontin can promote attachment of cells and stimulate signaling events in osteoclast. The aim of this this review is to explaine the role of osteopontin in osteoclast connected with bone resorption. Osteopontin stimulated CD44 expression on the osteoclast surface and it may promote osteoclast binding to resorptive sites by interacting with αvβ3 integrin receptor on osteoclast. The role of osteopontin in bone resorption is apparently more pronounced under circumstances of accelerated such as bone loss. In orthodontic tooth movement, increasing secretion osteopontin in early phase implies cellular reaction in bone resorption as a result application of light and intermittent forces.
